Anti Design

Anti Design also known as Radical Design, there was very much similarity, originated in Italy in the late 1960's, 1966 to be exact, by Ettore Sotsass when an exhibition was being held in Milan. It's characteristics included: striking colors, very vibrant, scale distortion like for example a giant chair that makes you look small, irony and non long-lasting materials also known as kitsch. It was a design flow and a style art movement.

Anti Design rejected the formalist values of the neo-modern design movement in Italy and wanted to renew the cultural and political role of design, believing that the original aims of Modernism had become no more than a marketing tool. In contrast to Modernism, the movement was founded on a belief in the importance of object's social and cultural value as well as its aesthetic function.

Anti Design did not become an avant-garde force because of some radical groups which were formed in Italy aswell.
These groups include:
Archizoom
Superstudio
Studio Archimia
UFO
Gruppo Strum
9999

Inspirations to Anti Design: Dada and Surrealism.
