Born out of a dream, that would be creating
a sports car second to no other car, while still accommodating the family
needs, Mustang was born in 1964. Lee Iaccoca created the first car that cost
less than 3000, but still had an incredible performance. Selling more than
22,000 on the first day the Mustang saga was clearly started. Throughout the
starting years, the ford company quickly understood that the unique sport like
shape of the car, and the superb torque produced by the Ford engine would be
the symbol of mustang. In fact up till 2013 throughout their 50 models, the
shape of the car was slightly changed from one model to another. Regarding
engines, the Mustang evolved completely, thought maintaining the same quality.
The first model being run by a 260 V-8 engine, was not economical for families
which used the Mustang regularly. So
Ford would make some alterations in the future models, mainly by decreasing the
engine size and increasing injections shafts’ size.
The
outside body was changed slightly from model to model, but the interior saw
some dramatic changes, as technology evolved. The Ford Mustang as a brand, by
the early 1970’s less than 10 years after the launch of the first car had made
quite a name for itself. In 1974 the Mustang II was released. It was publically
hated, due to its lack of power and poor handling. It is described as the least
favorite Mustang car, none the less it sold over 100,000, proving the client
trust Ford had built.
Till 1980 Mustang
released more than 10 models, each being a success selling more than 100,000 of
each model. Though in the 1980’s the Mustang car saw a declining, mainly
because other brands of cars came in, and were cheaper. Modern models were
being introduced and this left the Mustang in need for a new design for the
car. Introducing multiple new designs in the 1990’s, the Mustang took a new
look mainly by changing the front and back skirts. Also by now the Mustang was
becoming a sports car only, that not everyone could afford.
Mustang engines
were being created bigger and more efficient mainly thanks to technology
improvements. With the ninth generation, the last one up till now, the Mustang
car was drastically changed from the interior as it became one of the most
pleasurable driving vehicles ever created. Ford plans to release two more
models in 2015, though no information was given, thus continuing the 50 year
plus Mustang saga.
