International Style

International Style, also known as "Modern Movement" originated in Western Europe in the 1920's but took shape during the 1930's. It was originated by administrator of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Alfred H.Barr Jr. Modernists designers included: Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius and Ludwig Mies Van De Rohe. The International Gothic Style had already expanded across Europe while the Modernists work remained in Western Europe. This era focused on geometric forms and was a high class and exquisite with a pinch of decoration style.

Le Corbusier used to work with Josef Hoffman and Peter Behrens, not at the same time.

The Basculant Chair
The Basculant chair was produced not only by Le Corbusier but there was help from Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriend. It was specifically made for Thonet and in my opinion it resembles The Wassily Chair - Marcel Breuer but more in a Western way.

Le Corbusier constructed his first house which was in the year 1905 for a school teacher. He used to be a painter which worked with artist known as Purism and together they produced the first manifesto called: 'Apres Le Cubisme, Le Purisme', french for: 'After Cubism, Purism'. Corbusier had a passion for Classical and Greek architecture.

Other designers included:
Eileen Gray

Gray however started as an Art Deco designer. She was influenced by De Stijl and rational principles of the Bauhaus. Her work was concentrated on geometric shapes:
