Introduction

Throughout the 20th Century, design has existed as a major feature of culture and everyday life. Its compass is vast and includes three-dimensional objects, graphic communications and integrated systems from information technology to urban environments. Defined in its most global sense as the conception and planning of all man-made products, design can be seen fundamentally as an instrument for improving the quality of life. I will be discussing different eras from the 20th century and show what inspirations and developments where made during that period of time.
