Vienna Secession

Vienna was a place in which Jugendstil spread when developing the infrastructure of the city when the city was doing really well. They chose this particular style to represent the Viennese time. Vienna Secession also known as 'Secession Style' was founded by Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffman, Gustav Klimt and Carlo Moll. There is a strong element of organic design and they are very floral. Artists worked with architects to decorate interiors. Symbolist motifs- floral, sinuous females.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Painter which focused more on female body. This portrait has a contrast between the background and the dress the elements of flash have been given effect through contrast the dress has an abstract form to it. And the face has greater detail the face looks 3D while the dress and background are 2D. He uses basic shaped- parried inspired by byzantine. He was fascinated by the mosaic. Klimt led what is known as the Vienna sea section. His art is decorative, patterned and sensual.

The Kiss reflects the prosperity of Imperial Vienna before WW1 it also reflects the Viennese in segment ideas.
